Driving Licence

A full Irish driving licence or equivilant European full licence is required to drive AMI in Ireland. Provisional licence holders are not permitted to drive an AMI on Irish roads unaccompanied.

Officially, AMI driver's must hold a B category licence. You can confirm whether you hold a B licence by checking the rear of your driver's licence, the relevant category will be dated.

Insurance

AMI legally requires car insurance when on Irish roads.

Numerous insurers in Ireland already offer AMI on their systems and quotes can be obtained by contacting them by phone or submitting a quote request through their website.

Motor Tax

Despite officially being classed as a quadricycle, motor tax is required for AMI in Ireland.

As AMI is under the electric vehicle category with 0 emissions, it sits in the lowest band of €120 per year.

NCT

Ami does not require an NCT to be driven on Irish roads.

However, as per RSA guidelines "under road traffic law it is the owner and driver's responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is always kept in a roadworthy condition when used in a public place... All parts and equipment must be in good working order".

Charging

In Ireland, AMI will be delivered with a type 2 charging adapter for use with wall boxes.

This is due to AMI only being manufactured with a 2-pin European plug that fits neatly into the door surround. Charging via a wall box does not decrease charging time as AMI regulates the charge internally.

Left Hand Drive

In order to make AMI as affordable as possible, it will arrive in Ireland exclusively in left hand drive.

This has many benefits including kerbside exit when parking, making it safer to exit AMI.
